A Summary of The Gospel
The Gospel of the Kingdom of God
The gospel is the good news that God has fulfilled His eternal purpose through Jesus Christ and is calling all people everywhere to Himself.
From the beginning, mankind was created in the image of God to live in fellowship with Him, to reflect His character, and to exercise faithful stewardship over His creation. Sin brought death, separation, corruption, and bondage, and all creation has suffered under its effects.
Yet God did not abandon His purpose. Immediately after the fall He promised a Redeemer (Genesis 3:15), and throughout the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms, He prepared the way for His coming.
In the fullness of time, Jesus Christ came as the promised Messiah, the Son of God and the Son of Man. He perfectly revealed the Father, lived without sin, proclaimed the kingdom of God, fulfilled the Scriptures, demonstrated God's authority over sin, sickness, demons, nature, and death, and called people to repent and believe the gospel.
According to the determined plan of God, Christ gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sins. He died, was buried, and on the third day rose again, conquering sin, death, and the grave. He ascended to the Father, was exalted as Lord and Christ, and now reigns until all His enemies are put under His feet.
Through Him, forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to everyone who believes. Salvation is not earned by works or human righteousness but is received by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
The call of the gospel is therefore to repent, to turn from sin, self-rule, and the ways of this present world, and to turn wholeheartedly to God through Jesus Christ. Those who believe are baptized into Christ, receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, are born again into a new life, and become children of God.
The gospel is not merely about escaping judgment. It is an invitation into reconciliation with God, restoration into His family, and participation in His kingdom. Those who belong to Christ become a new creation. They are called to deny themselves, take up their cross, follow Him daily, walk in holiness, love God with all their heart, and love one another as Christ loved them.
God is gathering one people from every tribe, language, nation, and background into one body under one Head, Jesus Christ. In Him there is one faith, one Lord, one baptism, one Spirit, and one hope. The dividing walls between peoples have been broken down, and all who are in Christ are fellow heirs of the promises.
The Holy Spirit dwells within believers, transforming them into the likeness of Christ, producing His fruit, equipping them with spiritual gifts, and empowering them to be witnesses of Jesus throughout the earth.
The church is therefore a community of disciples who devote themselves to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer, mutual encouragement, service, generosity, and the proclamation of the gospel. Every believer is called to grow toward the fullness and maturity of Christ while helping others do the same.
The gospel also proclaims that Jesus Christ is coming again. He will judge the living and the dead with perfect righteousness, destroy every remaining enemy, fully establish His everlasting kingdom, raise the dead, and bring about the complete restoration of all things according to the Father's purpose. Those who belong to Him will dwell forever in His presence, where righteousness reigns and death, sorrow, crying, and pain are no more.
Therefore, the gospel that is to be preached to all the world is this:
God has fulfilled His promise through Jesus Christ. The kingdom of God has come near. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and has been exalted as Lord of all. Everyone everywhere is called to repent, believe the gospel, be baptized into Christ, receive the Holy Spirit, become His disciple, walk in faithful obedience, live as part of His one body, and persevere in hope until the day of His appearing.
This is the good news of God's saving work, from creation through redemption, to the restoration of all things under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
The New Testament presents the gospel as more than a message to be believed; it is a summons to follow a King. It announces what God has done in Christ, calls people to reconciliation with Him, and invites them to live under the reign of Jesus until He completes His work in all creation.
